In order to fulfill the purpose of the James Campbell High School Alumni & Community Foundation (“Foundation”), set forth in its By-Laws Article I Section 1.4, the Foundation is to foster and nurture the growth and development of James Campbell High School and the Campbell Community through active involvement of students, faculty, alumni and other individuals committed to lifelong learning and the desire to create a healthy, safe and caring community.
The Scholarship Committee was established by the Foundation to nurture life-long learning through scholarship opportunities not only for graduating seniors but also for any Alumni (former graduates of James Campbell High School) seeking higher education. The applicant shall be a member of the Foundation.
Policy:
- The Scholarship Committee shall consist of Foundation volunteers who are interested in analyzing all of the necessary information needed to determine the Foundation scholarship recipients for the year. Any committee member who may have a conflict of interest with a potential applicant shall remove themselves from serving on the committee for that year.
- The committee shall propose the budget and the process for scholarships at a general meeting.
- The committee shall develop the timeline leading up to the scheduled event.
- The committee shall notify the school staff of the Foundation application requirements, interview process and the selection process for each year.
- The committee shall develop the following processes:
- Pre-Notification (i.e. website, school flyer, social media, school, etc.)
- Application and Eligibility Requirements (i.e. questions, recommendations, GPA, etc.)
- Application Review for Completeness
- Panel Interview and Questions
- Final Selection Process
- Post Notification
- Information Retention
- The Legacy Scholarships will be assessed a 10% administrative fee based on award amount per year.
Process:
- Notification. The Foundation will publicize the scholarship opportunity on the website, social media, flyers and all other available tools. School notification will be coordinated.
- Scholarship Components. There are three components of the scholarship program: application, essay and panel interview.
- Application, Eligibility Requirements and Essay. See Application for details.
- Panel Interview and Questions. The panel shall consist of at least three (3) members plus one (1) alternate. A set list of questions will be used. Each member will use a set scoring sheet to assess the interviewee.
- Final Selection Process. The committee will review the application and assign a score based on the application and recommendations. The committee shall add the interview score to the application score to arrive at an overall assessment of each applicant. The committee shall discuss its findings and select appropriately. The final report shall be presented at the general meeting.
- Post Notification. The Foundation will publicize the recipient(s) after the ratification is made at the general meeting.
- Information Retention. The committee will scan all of the information and retain it on Foundation drives for future use for a period of seven (7) years.
